Cradles of Life

My Cradles of Life series shows nests that have fallen to the ground. Avian heartbreaks, so to speak. Nests have always moved me. For the past 25 years, I have collected fallen or abandoned nests from my garden. I am profoundly touched and mesmerized by those wondrous sentient beings who meticulously weave breathtaking structures.

Metaphorically, the egg may epitomize creation and rebirth, a source of infinite possibilities, a force of life, and a symbol of the unity of everything. I associate nests with feelings of refuge and shelter, embracing love and protection, family and heartfelt friendship. If one looks closely, my nests almost seem animate, with creatures hidden among the twigs or behind leaves.
